The Pretend One is an Australian independent drama directed by Tony Prescott. The story centers on an adult woman and her imaginary friend. It was filmed in central Queensland in April 2015, written by James Raue and Tony Prescott, and produced by Tony Prescott and Dinusha Ratnaweera. The film premiered in April 2018 at the Gold Coast International Film Festival and later played at the Newport Beach Film Festival. It had a limited theatrical release from March 2019 to July 2019. Critics praised it: Cinema Australia gave it five stars and called the on-screen relationship between the woman and her imaginary friend one of the most beautiful in Australian film, while FilmInk gave it 17.5/20 and praised its ambition and heart. Cinema Australia also ranked it fourth in its Top 5 Australian Films of 2018. The cast includes Geraldine Hakewill, Michael Whalley, Benedict Wall, and David Field. The film runs 86 minutes, is an Australian production, and features cinematography by Robert C. Morton, editing by Laurence Van Camp, and music by Darren Lim.
