Jackie Jackson
Jackie Jackson, born Sigmund Esco Jackson on May 4, 1951 in Gary, Indiana, is an American singer and songwriter. He is a founding member and the only constant member of the Jackson 5, who later became The Jacksons. He is the second child in the Jackson family and the oldest Jackson brother. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
Growing up, Jackie and his siblings were raised by Joe and Katherine Jackson. The family’s musical talent started with the Jackson Brothers, which later became the Jackson 5 when Michael joined and became the lead singer. The group signed with Motown in 1968, and Jackie spoke or sang high tenor parts on early hits like I Want You Back and ABC.
When the group became The Jacksons in 1976, Jackie took on more vocal and songwriting duties. He sang a lead with Michael on Enjoy Yourself and co-wrote Can You Feel It. His voice shifted to a lower tenor during the Epic years. He helped write and sing on songs like Wait and Torture from the 1984 Victory album. He injured his knee before the Victory Tour, but still performed on the final leg.
After Michael left the group in 1984, Jackie, Tito, and Randy worked more as session musicians and producers. The brothers released Time Out for the Burglar in 1987 and the 2300 Jackson Street album in 1989, which didn’t chart highly.
The Jacksons reunited briefly with Michael at his 30th anniversary show in 2001. Jackie released a solo album, Be the One, in 1989. In 2002 he started Jesco Records and Futurist Entertainment. His son Sigmund Jr., known as DEALZ, released a mixtape on Jesco in 2007. The Jacksons starred in the 2009 reality show The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty, with Jackie as an executive producer. The quartet toured again in 2012.
In 2017, Jackie signed the EDM/hip-hop duo Gold Lemonade to his label and mentored other artists like D.B.L. In September 2025, Jackie and his brother Marlon performed at the Reform UK Party Conference in Birmingham.
Jackie has been married three times and has four children: Enid Spann (1974–1987), Victoria Triggs (2001–2007), and Emily Besselink (married 2012) with whom he had twin boys; his first marriage produced Sigmund Esco Jr. (Siggy) and Brandi.
