The North is the sixth studio album by Canadian indie pop band Stars. It was released on September 4, 2012, through ATO Records. The album was recorded at RCA Victor Studios in Montreal and blends indie pop with new wave, synth-pop, baroque pop, and electropop, running 43 minutes and 54 seconds. Producers were Graham Lessard and Marcus Paquin. Singles released ahead of the album were Theory of Relativity (July 17, 2012), Hold On When You Get Love and Let Go When You Give It (July 18, 2012), and Backlines (August 7, 2012).

The North is the follow-up to The Five Ghosts (2010) and precedes No One Is Lost (2014). Amy Millan described the album as more upbeat, playful, joyful, and hopeful. It debuted at number 5 on the Canadian Albums Chart, and its cover features Habitat 67, a Montreal architectural landmark. Critics gave generally positive reviews, with Metacritic averaging 70 out of 100 from 22 reviews. All tracks were written by Stars.
