Melanin-concentrating hormone receptor 1
Melanin-concentrating hormone receptor 1 (MCHR1) is a protein found in mammals. It’s a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) on the cell membrane that binds melanin-concentrating hormone (MCH). When MCH activates MCHR1, it lowers cellular cAMP and increases intracellular calcium, influencing how neurons communicate. MCHR1 is thought to help regulate appetite and feeding, and it may also influence stress, anxiety, and depression. Although it resembles somatostatin receptors, MCHR1 does not bind somatostatin. It is present in various brain regions and other tissues, reflecting its diverse roles in mood and energy balance.
