The Moth Poetry Prize
The Moth Poetry Prize is a yearly award for a single unpublished poem. It was started in 2011 by the Irish magazine The Moth. The prize fund is €11,000, with the winner receiving €6,000. The competition is open to anyone, as long as the poem hasn’t been published before. Thousands of poets from more than 50 countries enter each year. A single poet judges the entries anonymously. Past judges include Hannah Sullivan, Louise Glück, Warsan Shire, Jacob Polley, Claudia Rankine, and others. Entries close on 31 December. In spring, a shortlist of four finalists is announced along with eight commended poems, and the shortlisted poems are published online in The Irish Times. The winner is announced at an online ceremony.
