The Molasses Flood
The Molasses Flood LLC was a Boston-based video game developer founded in 2014 by veterans from Irrational Games, Harmonix, and Bungie. Its first game, The Flame in the Flood (2016), is a survival adventure about a river journey and was released on Windows, macOS, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch; it received positive reviews and award nominations. Their second game was Drake Hollow. In 2021, CD Projekt acquired the company and, on April 1, 2025, The Molasses Flood was absorbed into CD Projekt Red, ending it as a separate entity. The studio had been working with CD Projekt Red on a Witcher universe multiplayer project codenamed Project Sirius, announced in 2022. In March 2024, CD Projekt announced a major write-off for Sirius, the project was rebooted, and 29 employees were laid off. On April 1, 2025, the team became part of CD Projekt Red, and co-founder Damian Isla left the company, while development on Sirius continued under CD Projekt Red.
