Canolo is a small town (comune) in Calabria, southern Italy, in the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria. It lies about 70 kilometers southwest of Catanzaro and 50 kilometers northeast of Reggio Calabria. The town covers 28.2 square kilometers and sits at 432 meters above sea level. As of 2017, about 714 people lived there, and residents are called Canolesi. The postal code is 89040 and the telephone area code is 0964. The patron saint is Saint Nicholas of Bari, celebrated on December 6.

Canolo borders Agnana Calabra, Cittanova, Gerace, Mammola, and San Giorgio Morgeto.

History and economy: The settlement may have been founded in the Byzantine era by survivors of an Arab attack on Gerace in 952, though evidence suggests people lived there even earlier, with Neolithic remains found in the area. In the Bourbon period, nearby mountains were mined for lignite, antimony, barium, and chalk.

The municipality’s administration was dissolved because of Mafia influence.
