The Idolmaster Live For You!
The Idolmaster Live For You! is a live simulation and rhythm game for the Xbox 360. It’s a sequel to The Idolmaster and was released in Japan on February 28, 2008. You play as a special producer who helps coordinate live performances for 11 idols from 765 Production.
In the game, you customize every concert: which idols perform, the song, the stage, costumes, and even who sings which lyrics. There are two main modes. In support mode, you perform a rhythm minigame where you press the correct buttons in time to the music. Your accuracy is shown as Perfect, Good, Normal, or OK, and a voltage meter goes up or down with your hits. Every 50 perfect hits triggers a special crowd appeal that boosts your score. In hard mode, the performance ends if the meter drops to zero. In photography mode, you control the camera during the concert, choosing angles and zooms to take photos. You can save up to five photos and one video of a performance.
Live For You! has a total of 74 songs (32 originals and 42 remixes). Additional songs and DLC costumes and ideas were released after launch. Online rankings let you compare scores with other players, and saving a video uploads your score online. The game also includes 48 achievements.
The story follows you as the substitute producer after the president of 765 Pro goes missing. You guide 11 idols—Haruka Amami, Chihaya Kisaragi, Yukiho Hagiwara, Yayoi Takatsuki, Ritsuko Akizuki, Azusa Miura, Iori Minase, Makoto Kikuchi, Ami and Mami Futami, and Miki Hoshii—with help from Kotori Otonashi, a clerical worker at 765 Pro. The player can customize the team and performances to fit their favorite idols.
Live For You! was designed to let players easily view and enjoy the live performances, with more camera options and a simple story. It introduced Kotori Otonashi to the main story and allowed Mami Futami to appear on stage alongside Ami for the first time.
The limited edition included an 84-page booklet, a slipcase, and an original video animation episode by Actas. The game sold about 44,000 copies in its first week and ranked fifth in Japan. It received a 28 out of 40 from Famitsu.
There were 17 downloadable content updates between February 28, 2008 and August 26, 2009, adding more songs, remixes, costumes, and "Idol Dramas" stories. Some players and critics noted that the game can be challenging, especially in hard mode and during the rhythm portions, and that the photography and communication features were not as strong as some players would like.
