The Glens (District Electoral Area)
The Glens is one of seven district electoral areas in Causeway Coast and Glens borough, Northern Ireland. It elects five councillors to the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council and contains the wards of Ballycastle, Kinbane, Loughguile and Stranocum, Lurigethan and Torr Head and Rathlin. The Glens sits within NI Assembly and UK Parliament constituencies that are split between North Antrim and East Antrim.
It was created for the 1985 local elections, replacing Moyle Area A. It originally contained five wards: Armoy, Glenaan, Glenariff, Glendun and Glenshesk. In 2014 it gained most of the abolished Ballycastle DEA and parts of the abolished Bushvale DEA.
Current councillors: Bill Kennedy (DUP), Margaret Anne McKillop (Independent), Oliver McMullan (Sinn Féin), Cara McShane (Sinn Féin), Maighréad Watson (Sinn Féin).
Election results have shifted over the years. Most recently, in 2023 the area elected 3 Sinn Féin, 1 SDLP and 1 DUP. Earlier elections have seen a mix of Sinn Féin, SDLP, UUP, DUP, Independents and other arrangements.
