The Boss Is Back!
The Boss Is Back! is a jazz studio album by saxophonist Gene Ammons. It was recorded on November 10–11, 1969, at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, and released later that year on Prestige Records. The album runs 39 minutes and 40 seconds.
This was Ammons’ second charting album, reaching No. 174 on the Billboard Top LPs for a two-week stay. It was produced by Bob Porter.
In Ammons’ discography, it follows Bad! Bossa Nova (1962) and precedes Brother Jug! (1969).
All tracks are composed by Gene Ammons unless otherwise noted.
Reception: AllMusic gave the album 4 stars, with reviewer Scott Yanow noting that Ammons returned from prison in prime form, keeping his big sound and energy, and still able to swing the blues.
