Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge

Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge is a protected area along the Tennessee River in West Tennessee. It was established in 1945 after the Tennessee Valley Authority dammed Kentucky Lake, creating wetlands that are ideal for many waterfowl.

The refuge covers about 51,359 acres (207.84 square kilometers) and has three units: Big Sandy (in Benton and Henry counties), Duck River (in Benton and Humphreys counties), and Busseltown (in Decatur County). Going upstream from north to south, the units are Big Sandy, Duck River, and Busseltown.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service manages the refuge, and the nearest city is New Johnsonville, Tennessee.
