Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki, also known as Tenchi Muyo! in North America, is the first set of Tenchi Muyo! original video animations (OVAs). Created by Masaki Kajishima and animated by AIC, it started in 1992 and launched a big franchise that includes more OVAs, TV series, and comics. The story follows Tenchi Masaki, a normal teenage boy whose life changes when he frees a powerful space pirate named Ryoko Hakubi from 700 years in the past. Ryoko quickly becomes part of his life, along with other space-born characters like Ayeka, Sasami, the brilliant Washu, and the talking spaceship Ryo-Ohki. The series mixes comedy, action, romance, and sci‑fi adventure.
