Tefta Cami
Tefta Cami (also written Tefta Cani) is an Albanian politician and educator. She was born on August 15, 1940, in Dibër, Albania. Her father, Ahmet Cani, was a partisan. She trained to be a teacher, graduating from the Pedagogical School in Peshkopi in 1959 and from the University of Tirana in 1964 with a degree in Albanian Language and Literature. She also completed a senior philosophy course in 1972 and earned the scientific degree "Candidate of Sciences" in 1988. From 1964 to 1967 she worked as director and deputy director at the Demir Gashi Pedagogical High School in Peshkopi. In 1970 she joined the Albanian Labour Party in Tirana as a member and secretary. In 1976, Enver Hoxha appointed her as Minister of Culture and Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, a position she held until 1987 (two years after Hoxha’s death). After leaving government, she served as a school principal again from 1987 to 1991. From 1993 to 2006 she was the association president and board chair of an art high school. She is married to Medi Cami, a doctor.
