David Gray (rugby union)
David Gray (28 March 1953 – 2 April 2009) was a Scottish rugby union player who played as a lock. Born in Kilmarnock, he played for Kilmarnock, West of Scotland, Ayrshire, and Glasgow District, and was part of the Glasgow team that shared the 1974–75 Scottish Inter-District Championship with North and Midlands. He earned one Scotland B cap in 1978 and went on to win nine full caps for Scotland from 1978 to 1981.
Outside rugby, Gray worked as a planner with South Ayrshire Council, helping people access the countryside. He completed a 205-mile Great Outdoors trek from Knoydart to the East Coast in 2008. He died in Ayr in 2009, aged 56, while training for the next trek, apparently of a heart attack, at Dam Park.
