Taylor Riley “Ty” Gold (born November 17, 1993) is an American snowboarder who competes in the halfpipe. He grew up in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, where his family splits time between Steamboat and Breckenridge. His father, Ken Gold, is a former moguls skier who films his son’s practices. Gold started snowboarding at age nine after loving the sport from watching the 2002 Winter Olympics.

Gold is a highly successful rider on the international circuit. He is a two-time Revolution Tour champion and won the Copper Mountain Grand Prix/World Cup in 2013, the Burton US Open in 2014, and the Red Bull Double Pipe in 2014. He also earned a silver medal at the 2011 FIS Junior World Championships in Valmalenco, Italy, and had strong results on the World Cup and tour circuits in the years that followed. His younger sister, Arielle Gold, is also a top snowboarder and Olympic bronze medalist.

In 2014, Gold competed for the United States in the Winter Olympics in Sochi, becoming one of the first U.S. men’s snowboarders to qualify for the Olympic halfpipe team. He reached the semi-finals but fell on a late attempt in his second run. After Sochi, he continued to win major events, including the 2014 Burton US Open and the Red Bull Double Pipe. He clinched his first Dew Tour win in early 2015.

Gold faced injuries that affected his career. He broke his kneecap in early 2015, which kept him out of the 2015-16 season. He returned to competition and won a bronze medal in X Games Aspen 2017 in the SuperPipe, but he then missed the 2017-18 season due to two surgeries. In 2022, he competed in the Beijing Winter Olympics, finishing 5th in the men’s halfpipe.

Gold is Jewish, and his family has a strong presence in Colorado’s ski communities. His sister Arielle’s Olympic success and World Championship titles have made the Gold family notable in American snowboarding.
