Talnique is a small municipality in El Salvador’s La Libertad department. It sits on a mountain with only one road leading in and out, and its economy comes from coffee farming and tourism. The area covers about 11.5 square miles (29.7 square kilometers) and lies roughly 2,900 feet (884 meters) above sea level. In 2013, about 9,160 people lived there. The town celebrates Saint Louis King of France in August. Talnique has Pre-Columbian origins, and it has been known by several names over the years: Terlinquetepeque (1548), San Luis Talnitepeque (1740), Talniquetet (1770), and Talnique (since 1807). The name is often described as meaning "Hill of the Talnetes" or "The place of the wasps of the Earth." The current mayor is Alexander Cabrera from the COALICIÓN GANA-NUEVAS IDEAS.
