TalkingCock.com
TalkingCock.com is a Singaporean humor site that satirizes local current affairs and politics, and sometimes world news. The phrase "talking cock" means idle chatter in Singlish.
Launched in August 2000 by Colin Goh, a film director, cartoonist and former lawyer, the site features posts by anonymous contributors.
It gained notable attention over the years: it’s been mentioned in Parliament, covered by foreign media, and cited by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in the 2006 National Day Rally. With about 4.4 million people in Singapore at the time, the site earned roughly 4 million hits per month.
TalkingCock hosts the Coxford Singlish Dictionary, a widely used reference quoted by the local press. It has campaigned against efforts to discourage Singlish. The comic Alien Talent appears daily in The New Paper. The site inspired the movie Talking Cock the Movie, directed by Goh. TalkingCock.com has been on indefinite hiatus since January 2010.
