Taisto Miettinen
Taisto Miettinen (born 20 June 1965) is a Finnish athlete known for competing in many sports. He is a World Champion in water running (2004), iron bar walking (2012), bog snorkeling (2012) and kicksled (2014). He won the Wife Carrying World Championship in 2009–2013, 2017, 2022 and 2023, and is the oldest winner in the event, with 13 medals in the world championships.
In Finland, he won snowshoe running titles (gold in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014) and winter swimming (gold in 2010; silver at the world championships). He has many other titles and medals, including two world records (water running 50 m and wife carrying 100 m). He has been recognized by CraveOnline in 2012 and was a finalist for Finland’s most interesting person in 2013.
Miettinen served on Kauniainen’s city council (Finnish Folk Party, 2012–2016) and ran for Parliament in 2015. He has appeared on TV, including Live with Kelly and Michael. He is a lawyer with a licentiate of science in economics and has written a book on corporate tax minimization.
