Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest 1960
Sweden participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 1960 with the song Alla andra får varann, performed by Siw Malmkvist. The song was written by Ulf Kjellqvist (music) and Åke Gerhard (lyrics). Sveriges Radio (SR) selected the entry through a national final, and Malmkvist was chosen internally to perform it after she had been denied the previous year.
The national final, often called Melodifestivalen 1960, started with about 1100 submitted songs. Eight radio preselection rounds narrowed the field to eight songs, which went to a televised semi-final on 28 December 1959 and then to the final on 2 February 1960 in Stockholm. In the final, the same song was performed twice by different artists (one version with a full orchestra and one with a smaller ensemble). Four expert juries from four cities chose the winner, and the songwriters were revealed only after the decision. Östen Warnerbring performed a short reprise of the winning song at the end.
On the night of Eurovision, Malmkvist performed second. Sweden finished 10th with 4 points (jointly with Denmark) out of 13 entries. The Swedish jury gave 4 points to Belgium and to France, the contest winner. Each jury member could give one point to their favorite song.
