Sugamo Station
Sugamo Station (巣鴨駅) is a railway station in Toshima, Tokyo, Japan. It is operated by JR East and the Toei Subway. The station serves two lines: the JR East Yamanote Line and the Toei Mita Line.
- Lines and structure: There are two island platforms (one for each line) and four tracks. The Yamanote Line platforms are above ground, while the Mita Line platforms are underground.
- Codes: Yamanote Line – JY11; Mita Line – I-15.
- History: The station opened on April 1, 1903. Platform edge doors were added to the Yamanote Line in 2013. Station numbering started in 2016.
- Usage: In fiscal 2013, JR East saw about 77,000 boarding passengers per day, and Toei’s portion had about 46,000 per day.
- Nearby: North of the station is Jizō-dōri, a long shopping street popular with older women; the area is sometimes called "Harajuku for Grannies."
- Connections: There is a bus terminal at the station.
