Stuart Briscoe
Stuart Briscoe (November 1930 – August 3, 2022) was an evangelical Christian author, speaker, and longtime pastor of Elmbrook Church in Brookfield, Wisconsin. Under his leadership, Elmbrook grew from about 300 members to a weekly attendance of around 7,000 and helped plant several daughter churches in the Greater Milwaukee area.
Born in Millom, England, Briscoe trained at Capernwray Hall Bible School and initially worked in banking before pursuing international ministry with Capernwray Missionary Fellowship of Torchbearers. He began speaking in the United States in the 1960s, especially to youth, and became Elmbrook’s senior pastor in 1970. He wrote more than 80 books and started the Telling the Truth media ministry in 1971, which continues online and on SiriusXM. In 2000, after 30 years as senior pastor, he and his wife, Jill Ryder Briscoe (married 1958), became Ministers-at-Large, focusing on pastors, missionaries, and church leaders worldwide while staying connected to Elmbrook. The Briscoes lived in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, and had three children.
