Stagecoach Trail
Stagecoach Trail is a historic, scenic route in northern Illinois. It runs about 40 miles from Lena to Galena, passing through Scales Mound, Apple River, Warren, and Nora in Jo Daviess and Stephenson counties. The trail is part of the old Galena–Chicago trail that crossed the state. It goes near Waddams Hill, the third highest point in Illinois, and is close to Charles Mound, the state's highest point, near the Illinois–Wisconsin border. The route can be a pleasant alternative to U.S. Route 20 between Lena and Galena, showing off pretty towns and countryside. Stagecoach rides are offered at several points along the trail. In the late 20th century, communities along the route held a Stagecoach Trail Festival each June.
