El heredero de Casa Pruna
El heredero de Casa Pruna (The Heir of the Pruna House) is a 1904 Spanish silent comedy directed by Segundo de Chomón. Shot in Barcelona, it is considered the first Spanish comedy film. The story follows a young man in a funny outfit who asks a scrivener to write a notice saying he, the heir of the Pruna house, wants to marry. The notice is posted and a crowd of women gathers at the Chicha-Chic farm in Horta. He waits with a large laurel branch on his buttonhole, then the women chase him as he escapes through gates, climbs walls, steals a bicycle, and races away, ending at a fountain (the last seconds are missing). The film was inspired by similar American comedies from 1904 but set in Spain around Horta. It uses 13 shots, mostly wide, with one close-up of the notice and a chase shown from three camera angles, including an innovative lateral pan for the time. The film was thought lost until a nitrate copy was found in 2002 at the Cinema Museum of Girona, though the ending remains missing. Running time: about 6 minutes and 14 seconds.
