Sprotte
The Sprotte is a small river in eastern Thuringia, Germany. It is a left tributary of the Pleiße. The river begins from three headstreams west of Crimmitschau near Gera and flows together to form the Großensteiner Sprotte. It runs northeast through Nöbdenitz and Schmölln to Saara, where it joins the Pleiße. The Sprotte is about 30 kilometers long and drains a basin of around 166 square kilometers. From its source to its mouth, the elevation falls by about 120 meters (from roughly 315 m to about 195 m above sea level). Water from the Sprotte eventually reaches the North Sea via the Pleiße, White Elster, Saale and Elbe. A notable town on the river is Schmölln. The average discharge near Großstöbnitz is about 0.62 cubic meters per second, with seasonal variations.
