Eddie Collins (miner)
Eddie Collins (1894–1972) was a Yorkshire miner, labour activist and local councillor. He was especially active at Denaby Main, where he served for many years as branch secretary of the Miners' Union. He was born in Wombwell, near Barnsley. His father worked as a sinker at Cadeby Main Colliery, and the family later moved to Denaby Main. Eddie hoped to become a school teacher, but after failing the exams he began working at Cadeby Main colliery and moved to Denaby Main in 1911. He later took classes with the Workers' Educational Association, taught by Arnold Freeman.
