Sports on Amazon Prime Video
Sports on Amazon Prime Video is Amazon’s way to watch live sports online. It started in the United States and sells add‑on channels that let you stream various sports events. The service began in 2017 when Amazon paid for non‑exclusive rights to stream parts of Thursday Night Football for Prime members. Since then, Amazon has won exclusive rights to major sports in about 10 countries, including the Premier League in the UK, the UEFA Champions League in the UK, Germany, and Italy, Ligue 1 and the French Open in France, Copa do Brasil in Brazil, and the NHL’s Monday Night Hockey in Canada. It also shows Thursday Night Football in the United States.
In December 2022, Amazon launched Sports Talk in the United States, a free, ad‑supported live sports talk channel made with Embassy Row. It ran on Prime Video and also on Freevee, but it was shut down in October 2023. Sports Talk offered weekday programming from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET and featured shows like Bonjour Sports Talk and The Cari Champion Show, with hosts such as Ben Lyons and Cari Champion.
Prime Video also offers several paid “channels” for live sports. These add‑ons let you access services like MLB.TV, NBA League Pass, Paramount+, PGA Tour Live, and more, depending on the country. Examples include MLB Network via MLB.TV in the US, NBA TV via NBA League Pass in the US, Premier Sports and La Liga TV in the UK, Golf Channel and Le Pass Ligue 1 in France, and NBA and Copa Libertadores coverage in Brazil.
