Soyuz 26 was a Soviet space mission to the space station Salyut 6. It carried the first long‑duration crew to live on Salyut 6: Yuri Romanenko and Georgi Grechko. The mission launched on 10 December 1977 from Baikonur and docked with Salyut 6 the next day. The two cosmonauts stayed on the station for about 37 days and completed 1,522 orbits around Earth. In January 1978, Soyuz 27 arrived at the station, and its crew transferred so Soyuz 26 could undock and land a few days later. Soyuz 26 landed on 16 January 1978 about 265 kilometers west of Tselinograd (now in Kazakhstan).
