South High Commercial Historic District
South High Commercial Historic District
The South High Commercial Historic District is a historic area on High Street in Downtown Columbus, Ohio. It covers 11 contributing commercial buildings across two city blocks. The northern block includes the Great Southern Hotel and Theatre and the Schlee-Kemmler Building, both of which are already listed on the Columbus Register and the National Register of Historic Places. The southern block features nine late-19th-century storefronts, mostly two to three stories tall, with a variety of architectural details. These blocks create one of the last cohesive historic streetscapes in downtown Columbus.
The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 and to the Columbus Register of Historic Properties in 1987 (NRHP No. 83004301; CRHP No. CR-47). It is located at coordinates 39.955187°N, 82.998976°W.
