Somerset Academy Archaeological Site
Somerset Academy Archaeological Site is in Princess Anne, Somerset County, Maryland. It marks the location of the former Somerset Academy, a large private school that operated from 1767 to 1797. This site is the only archaeologically identified late-colonial school in Maryland. Hugh Henry Brackenridge, who would later found the University of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Gazette, was one of the headmasters, and Philip Freneau also taught there. The site was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 11, 1986.
