Sobotín
Sobotín is a small municipality and village in Šumperk District, Olomouc Region, Czech Republic. It has about 1,100 residents and covers roughly 32 square kilometers. The village lies about 9 km northeast of Šumperk and 48 km north of Olomouc, mainly in the Hanušovice Highlands, with parts reaching into the Hrubý Jeseník mountains. The highest point in Sobotín is about 1,125 meters above sea level.
Sobotín was first mentioned in 1351 and grew because of iron ore mining. In 1844 the Klein family bought a local building and rebuilt it into a castle; they were German businesspeople who were expelled after World War II. On 1 January 2010, the nearby municipality of Petrov nad Desnou separated from Sobotín.
The I/11 road from Šumperk to Bruntál passes through the area. Notable landmarks include the Klein family mausoleum (1885), the Sobotín Castle (now a hotel with a surrounding nature park), and the Church of Saint Lawrence, a late Renaissance building that was Protestant before 1620. In Klepáčov you’ll find the Church of Saint John the Baptist, a rare wooden folk church from 1783.
