Slippery When Wet is a 1975 single by the American funk/R&B band the Commodores from their second album, Caught in the Act. It was written by lead guitarist Thomas McClary. The song was released on April 2, 1975 (US) and runs 2:58 in the single edit. The B-side is "The Bump." Produced by the Commodores and James Anthony Carmichael, it was released on Motown. The track became the Commodores’ first No. 1 on the US Soul Singles chart and reached No. 19 on the Billboard Hot 100. The Limbomaniacs later sampled the song in their 1990 track "Shake It."
