Silas Weir Mitchell (actor)
Silas P. Weir Mitchell (born Silas Weir Mitchell Neilson on September 30, 1969) is an American character actor from Philadelphia. He is best known for playing Charles "Haywire" Patoshik on Prison Break (2005–2007), Donny Jones on My Name Is Earl (2005–2009), and Monroe on Grimm (2011–2017). He is named after his ancestor Silas Weir Mitchell, a 19th‑century physician. He attended The Montgomery County Day School and St. Paul’s School, then earned a BA in Theatre and Religion from Brown University and an MFA from the University of California, San Diego.
Mitchell began acting in New York theatre after Brown and built a steady TV career with recurring roles on shows like 24 and Numb3rs, and by playing Haywire in Prison Break and Donny Jones in My Name Is Earl. He has appeared in films such as Rat Race (as Lloyd) and The Whole Ten Yards, and he has guest‑starred on ER, CSI, Law & Order: SVU, Dexter, Monk, The X-Files, The Closer, Boomtown, and The Shield. He played Monroe on Grimm for its six-season run from 2011 to 2017. He was married to K. K. Dodds, divorcing in 2017.
