Everson (footballer, born 1990)
Everson Felipe Marques Pires, known as Everson, is a Brazilian goalkeeper who plays for Atlético Mineiro. He was born on 22 July 1990 in Pindamonhangaba, São Paulo, and is 1.93 meters tall.
Everson came through the youth setup at AA Ferroviária and São Paulo. He started his senior career at São Paulo in 2010, spent time on loan at Guaratinguetá, and later joined them permanently. He also played for River and Confiança, where he scored a goal from a penalty. In 2015 he signed for Ceará, became a regular starter, and helped the team win promotion to Brazil’s top division; he even scored a free-kick for Ceará against Corinthians in 2018. In 2019 he moved to Santos, where he quickly established himself in the first team.
In September 2020 Everson joined Atlético Mineiro on a two-year contract worth around R$6 million and immediately became the first-choice goalkeeper. In his first season with the club, Atlético Mineiro finished third in the Brasileirão and Everson kept nine clean sheets. The team also won the Campeonato Mineiro and topped their Copa Libertadores group, with Everson playing a key role in the knockout rounds. In the quarter-finals against Boca Juniors, he saved two penalties in a shootout and then took the deciding penalty to send Atlético Mineiro through.
On 27 August 2021, Everson received his first call-up to the Brazil national team ahead of 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
Career goals: Everson has scored two goals as a goalkeeper—one for Confiança and one for Ceará, both from set pieces.
