Sheffield Scimitars were a semi-professional ice hockey team from Sheffield, England. Founded in 1986 as an under-21 side, they started at the 500-seat Queens Road rink and became a senior team in the 1990s, playing in the ENIHL. They moved to the iceSheffield complex in 2002 and found success in the ENIHL, earning promotion to the English Premier League for the 2005–06 season. The team played in white, black and red at iceSheffield, which has a capacity of 1,500 and an ice size of 200 by 100 feet. They were owned by Gary Apsley and Ian Johnson, coached by Jon Rowbotham, and captained by Peter Slamiar, with affiliations to the Sheffield Spartans. Their mascot was Scimi, a male hockey player with a large smiling head wearing number 00. In July 2010, the Scimitars ceased operations and were replaced in the EPL by the Sheffield Steeldogs.
