Sequins 2
Sequins 2 is a limited edition EP by Irish singer Róisín Murphy. It was released on Echo Records as a 12-inch vinyl in February 2005, recorded at The Dairy studio in London and produced by Matthew Herbert and Murphy. It sits between Sequins 1 and Sequins 3, all released in 2005.
The opening track, Sow into You, uses rain and harvest imagery to describe love and sex, with a baroque pop brass backdrop. The third track, Dear Diary, blends northern soul with disco and includes sounds like doorbells and telephones. The closing track, Leaving the City, starts slowly and builds up, using slightly out-of-tune instrumentation and a repeating chorus.
The cover art was painted by Simon Henwood. Murphy met him in a pub, and he thought she would be a good subject for a painting. He visited her home, and after they looked through her wardrobe they decided to have her dressed in sequins. Murphy posed in abstract shapes for the painting, which Henwood described as a "disco electro pop diva with a 1940s look." The canvases were shown in London, and Murphy bought them for her kids to see what she once looked like.
All tracks on Sequins 2 were written and composed by Róisín Murphy and Matthew Herbert.
