Second Schröder cabinet (Kabinett Schröder II) was Germany’s 19th government. It was in office from 22 October 2002 until November 2005, and continued as a caretaker government until 22 November 2005. Chancellor Gerhard Schröder led a red-green coalition of the SPD and the Greens. Joschka Fischer of the Greens was Vice Chancellor and Foreign Minister. The cabinet had 13 ministries, one fewer than the previous Schröder government. The president changed during this time: Johannes Rau served until 30 June 2004, then Horst Köhler took over from 1 July 2004. The cabinet came after the 2002 federal elections and was followed by Angela Merkel’s first cabinet after the 2005 elections.
