Scripting Layer for Android

SL4A, the Scripting Layer for Android, is a discontinued library that lets you run scripts on Android using multiple scripting languages. Scripts can access many Android APIs with a simpler interface than regular Java apps, and you can run them either interactively in a terminal or in the background as Android services.

It was announced by Google in June 2009 and was originally called the Android Scripting Environment (ASE). It wasn’t an official Google product, though many Google developers contributed. SL4A was created by Damon Kohler, with ongoing input from many contributors. The main development branch is no longer active.
