Schliersee Mountains

Schliersee Mountains, or Schlierseer Berge, are part of the Mangfall Mountains in the Bavarian Prealps near the lakes Schliersee and Spitzingsee. The highest and best-known peak is Rotwand at 1,884 meters. It is a popular destination in both summer and winter. From the valley station of the Taubenstein Cable Car, the Rotwand can be climbed in about 1.5 hours, a route that becomes very busy. Longer climbs, such as from the Leitzach valley, are quieter. The watershed between Schliersee and Tegernsee crosses the mountains and forms the boundary between the parishes of Rottach-Egern to the west and Schliersee to the east.
