Sammy Winder
Sammy Winder (born July 15, 1959) is a former American football running back who played his entire NFL career with the Denver Broncos from 1982 to 1990. A Mississippi native, he starred at Madison-Ridgeland High School and Southern Miss, where he set school records with 3,114 rushing yards and 39 touchdowns.
Winder played for Southern Miss from 1978 to 1981, with standout seasons including 996 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns as a junior and 1,029 yards and 12 touchdowns as a senior. He earned two Pro Bowl selections (1984 and 1986) and helped the Broncos reach three Super Bowls in the 1980s.
In nine NFL seasons, Winder rushed for 5,427 yards and 39 touchdowns and caught 197 passes for 1,302 yards and 9 receiving touchdowns. He was known for his touchdown celebration called the "Mississippi Mud Walk." In his final two seasons he was the backup to Bobby Humphrey.
After football, Winder started his own construction company, Winder Construction, in 1987 and runs it.
