Saara Lamberg
Saara Lamberg is a Finnish-Australian filmmaker who works in Australia as a director, writer, producer and actor. Their most notable work is the feature film Innuendo, which Lamberg wrote, directed and produced. It was released in October 2017 in Melbourne and has been compared to the films of David Lynch, Yorgos Lanthimos and Roman Polanski. Lamberg is non-binary.
Lamberg was born in Helsinki, Finland, and graduated from Kallio Upper Secondary School of Performing Arts at eighteen. They studied at Dartington College of Arts in England and earned a BA (Hons) in Theatre and Choreographic Practices in 2007. In 2010 they joined Montsalvat’s Artist in Residence program in Melbourne and made the city their home, becoming a dual citizen in 2014.
Lamberg has won several awards, including Bronze at the Beverly Hills screenplay contest (Hollywood, 2013), Best Actor at Comfy Shorts (Melbourne, 2014), Best Drama at the Connect Film Festival (Melbourne, 2014), and Best Actor (Lithuania, 2004). Innuendo won Best Feature at the Fine Arts Film Festival in California and the Audience Award for Best Australian Film by Cinema Australia. The film had its European premiere at the Rencontres Internationales du Cinéma des Antipodes in October 2017.
The Movie Blog described Innuendo as “a very important piece of Aussie cinema,” and other outlets called it a true original. In Australia, the film is distributed by Umbrella Entertainment and international sales are handled by Blairwood Entertainment. Before Innuendo, Lamberg wrote, directed and produced five short films. In 2017 they began work on a second feature, The Westermarck Effect.
