SSU Politehnica Timișoara is a Romanian football club from Timișoara. It is also known as Poli, Știința Poli Timișoara, or simply Poli Timișoara. The club was founded in 1921 by the Polytechnic University of Timișoara as Societatea Sportivă Politehnica Timișoara, created to give students a place to train and compete.

After many changes and financial problems, the original club dissolved in 2012. A fan-founded team, ASU Politehnica Timișoara, was created, and in 2021 the Polytechnic University allowed SSU Politehnica to use the Politehnica name, colors, and history as the legal successor of the old club. Today SSU Politehnica Timișoara is the official heir to Politehnica Timișoara’s historic legacy.

The team plays in Liga III, Seria IX, in the 2024–25 season. They host games at Dan Păltinișanu Stadium, which seats about 33,000 fans. The club wears white and purple, and its nicknames include Alb-violeții (White-Purples) and Echipa de pe Bega (The Bega River Team).

Politehnica has a long history in Romanian football, including two Cupa României victories (1957–58 and 1979–80) and many seasons in the top leagues. The club also has a notable European past, with appearances in competitions such as the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup.

Rivals include UTA Arad (the West Derby), CFR Cluj, Dinamo București, and Universitatea Craiova. The team enjoys a loyal fan base and has cultivated friendships with some other clubs’ supporters, such as Rapid București.

Today, SSU Politehnica Timișoara carries the spirit and colors of the city’s football history, continuing to compete in Romanian football as the successor to the historic Politehnica Timișoara.
