Ruth Island

Ruth Island, also called Ruth Cay, is an artificial island off the southern coast of Saint Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands, near Port Alucroix. It was created in the mid-1960s by dredging Krauses Lagune and covers about 40 acres. The island has no small Indian mongooses, so scientists moved the endangered Saint Croix ground lizard from Protestant Cay. Today there are about 30 ground lizards living on Ruth Island.
