Three-year-old season (2004): he finished second to North Light in the Dante Stakes at York, and also ran second in the Epsom Derby. He was fourth in the Irish Derby. He then won the Great Voltigeur Stakes at York and captured the St Leger at Doncaster, leading early and fending off a late challenge to win by a head.
Rule of Law sustained a foot injury in Dubai during the 2004/5 winter and did not race again, though he stayed in training for a time. He was retired to Darley Stud and began a stud career. He later stood in Japan and, from 2011, in Ireland at Kedorah House Stud in County Tipperary. So far, he has had limited success as a sire of winners.
