Rugby Town F.C. (1945)
Rugby Town Football Club was an English football team from Rugby, Warwickshire. It existed from 1946 to 1973. The home ground was Oakfield, and the team wore white shirts and black shorts. It began as Rugby Town Amateurs.
They joined the Central Amateur League in 1946 and won the title in 1947–48, then moved to the United Counties League. In 1950 they merged with Rugby Oakfield and shortened the name to Rugby Town. For the 1950–51 season they joined the Birmingham Combination, which they won in 1950–51; this was the last season of that competition in 1954.
They then joined the Birmingham & District League for four seasons. In 1958–59 they moved to the Southern League, where they stayed for the rest of the club’s existence. They played in the Southern League Premier Division in 1962–66 and again in 1968–69. They won the Birmingham Senior Cup in 1970–71.
In 1973 the Oakfield lease was not renewed, so the club went out of business and the company was wound up that autumn. Since then, other clubs have used the Rugby Town name but are not connected with this club.
The club’s original ground was Thornfield; after merging with Oakfield, they moved to Oakfield on Bilton Road.
