Rough Opinion
Rough Opinion, formerly The Mau, is a Samoan hip hop group from Wellington, New Zealand, formed in 1990. The members are MC Kosmo, Khas the Fieldstyle Orator (now Tha Feelstyle), and DJ Rockit V. They named themselves after the Mau, the Samoan independence movement, signaling a connection to Samoan history. The group blended Samoan history with references to the U.S. Black Power movement to express diasporic Samoan cultural nationalism. Although they never released a studio album, their live performances—with Samoan language rhymes and Black Power imagery—influenced many later hip hop acts.
