Allen Creek (Banister River tributary)
Allen Creek is a small stream in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. It runs about 5.5 miles, starting near Straightstone and flowing southwest to join the Banister River about a mile southwest of Hermosa. The creek drains a 17-square-mile area, receives about 45 inches of rain each year, and is roughly 59% forested. Its main tributaries are Peters Creek (left) and Blacks Creek (right). Bridges crossing it include Allen Creek Road, VA Route 40, and Hermosa Road. Elevation falls from about 590 feet at the source to about 393 feet at the mouth. Water from Allen Creek flows into the Banister River, then the Dan and Roanoke rivers, and finally reaches the Atlantic Ocean through Albemarle Sound and Pamlico Sound.
