John Schroder
John Michael Schroder Sr. (born February 23, 1961) is an American businessman from Covington, Louisiana. A Republican, he served as Louisiana state treasurer from November 18, 2017, to January 8, 2024. He previously served in the Louisiana House of Representatives for District 77 from January 14, 2008, to June 8, 2017. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Southeastern Louisiana University. He is married to Ellie Daigle, and they have two children.
Schroder left the House in June 2017 to focus on his campaign for treasurer in a special election to fill the vacancy left by John Kennedy’s move to the U.S. Senate. He advanced to a runoff with Democrat Derrick Edwards and won the election.
As treasurer, Schroder emphasized protecting taxpayers and addressing budget and spending issues. In October 2022, he announced that Louisiana pulled about $794 million from BlackRock due to concerns over the firm’s political and social goals, a decision drawing criticism from some groups.
On February 9, 2023, Schroder announced his candidacy for governor. In the jungle primary, he finished fourth with about 5.3% of the vote.
