Rob Renes is a former American football player who played nose tackle for the Michigan Wolverines. He was born on March 28, 1977, in Holland, Michigan, and played at the University of Michigan from 1997 to 1999. In 1997 Michigan won the national championship. In 1999, Renes was a first-team All-American and a team co-captain, and he was also named an Academic All-American that year. The Sporting News listed him as a first-team All-American. He finished his Michigan career with 151 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, five sacks, and three fumble recoveries. He was a four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and won the Dr. Arthur Robinson Scholar Athlete award twice.

Renes was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the seventh round of the 2000 NFL draft. Two weeks into training camp, he fractured his L-5 vertebra and was placed on injured reserve, ending his NFL career. He wore a back brace for over a year, and the Colts waived him. He then began teaching at Saline Middle School near Ann Arbor. He tried to come back in 2002, but nerve damage caused numbness, making a return impossible. He later said he felt proud of what he had achieved and that the back injury ended his playing days.
