Gameplay
- A throwback to classic 1990s shooters: fast movement, non-linear levels, multiple playable characters, and over-the-top weapons inspired by the original.
- 20 levels (plus four secret levels) across four episodes.
- Online multiplayer with Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Capture the Flag.
Story
- A team of operatives called H.U.N.T. goes to San Nicolas Island to stop the Triad cult, which plans to nuke nearby Los Angeles.
Development
- Development began in January 2012. It started as an HD remake but became a full re-imagining with a global team.
- Producer Leon Zawada had worked on a fan-made sequel.
- Revealed at QuakeCon 2012 and released at QuakeCon 2013.
- Budget was tight, with much of the money spent on licensing the Rise of the Triad IP and Unreal Engine 3.
Reception
- Received average reviews. Critics noted it recreates the original’s feel but can feel dated. Quotes reflect mixed opinions on its authenticity and older mechanics.
