Richard Neville Hawkes (29 November 1940 – 6 August 2001) was a New Zealand judge and tennis player. He came from a sporting family—his father represented New Zealand Universities in rugby and his mother was an all-round athlete from Taranaki.

In the 1960s he played on the international tennis tour, appearing in the French Open (1962 and 1968) and the US Open (1969). He also played for New Zealand in the 1968 Davis Cup, partnering Brian Fairlie in doubles in Zagreb against Yugoslavia. In 1970 he beat former American Davis Cup captain Donald Dell at the New Zealand Open.

Hawkes studied at Victoria University of Wellington and became a barrister in 1968. He moved to Hong Kong in the late 1970s. He served as a Hong Kong District Judge from 1991 and was Chief District Judge from 1999 for two years before retiring due to ill health.

He married squash player Julie Lamb, and they raised four children in Hong Kong. Their daughter Jaclyn Hawkes is a Commonwealth Games squash gold medalist.
